WHAT’S IN A NAME?

What’s in a Name?

10

Continuing in the series ’10 – Set Free to Live Free’, this message addresses the third commandment in Exodus 20:7, “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain…”

There are many ways that we can take God’s name in vain, such as making careless vows, using praise phrases out of context or by speaking on behalf of God when He is not speaking. We must remember that God owns his name and any use of God’s name that brings dishonor on Him or on His character indicates a lack of respect for God.

Every commandment has two sides and the flip side of not taking God’s name in vain is to remember how Jesus taught us to pray – “Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name.”
